Story Of Kali Matha

The story of Kalima begins with Lord Shiva telling Parvati Mata (One of the forms of Durga) that he needs to go and meditate. Soon after Lord Shiva leaves, the King of the Rakshasa arrives asking for the blessings of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. The Rakshasa are very devoted followers of Lord Shiva so she tells him that Lord Shiva is meditating however, he can have her blessings as long as he does not break any of the rules of war. With that, the Rakshasa left.

The Rakshasa attack and reach the gates of Heaven and have been defeated all the way to there. Fearing complete defeat, they rush to find Lord Shiva. When they find Mother Parvati, she tells them that he is meditating. They ask for her blessings, she says that she cannot offer it because the Rakshasa King already has it. They finally ask, "Can you lead or army?" Parvati agrees with the condition that they obey her every order. The Devas agree to her terms.

As the war continued just outside of Heaven, Parvati took the form of Matha Durga and lead the army of Devas. The Devas army had been devastated by the battles with the Rakshasa. Now, with Durgama leading the battle, the Rakshasa advance was stopped. As the battle continued, Durgama's leadership gave the advantage to the Devas and the Rakshasa started to lose.

The King of the Rakshasa grew nervous. The Devas were joyous. As the battle continued, the Rakshasa lost ground. Then, all at once, the Rakshasa retreated. The Devas started to pursue the retreating Rakshasa. Durgama ordered the Devas to return to their positions and not pursue the Rakshasa. The Devas ignored her. Even the leaders of the Devas took off after the retreating Rakshasa army. They left Durgama alone with only her personal guards. From behind, a small group of the Rakshasa lead by the Rakshasa King surrounded Drugama. The King spoke. "Mata, I cannot attack you and I cannot have you leading the Devas. By the rules of combat, you should surrender however, you may also leave the battle field or even ask me to surrender. I will do as you say." Durgama smiled. "You have done what is your duty and I have taken leadership of the Devas. As such, it is my duty to surrender. As long as you follow the rules of combat treat your prisoners well, I will not fight or seek escape while in prison." The Rakshasa King agreed.

Once Durgama agreed to be a prisoner, she returned to her form as Parvathi and went to the Rakshasa prision. Once Parvathi was in prison, the Rakshasa army stopped its retreat and attacked the Devas. The retreat had been a trick to get the Devas away from Durgama. The Devas were caught off gaurd. They retreated to their original positions and searched for Durgama. They found their leader missing and realized their mistake.

As the Rakshasa advanced, most of the Devas were either captured or killed however, a very few escaped. The Rakshasa army advanced to the gates of Heaven and defeated the army guarding them. The Rakshasa army took control of Heaven and the Rakshasa King seized the throne making all of the Devas that remained into servants. After enjoying his victory, the Rakshasa King decided to leave Heaven and bring its riches to his own people so they could enjoy the celebrations. He left explicit orders to find the remaining Devas that had escaped capture and above all, to treat the prisoners well until the victory was complete. With that, he left.

While the Rakshasa King was away, some of the Rakshasa that were guarding the prisons decided that the King's orders were only for Heaven and did not apply to the prisons. They took the opportunity to start attacking the Devas being held prisoner. As the attacks began, Parvithi demanded that the attacks stop immediately and that the King be called. The Rakshasa laughed and decided to assult her. Parvithi was enraged. As the Rakshasa approached, she glared at them and said, "If you dare to attack me, then I will desecrate you by drinking your blood and wearing your body parts as clothes!" As her anger grew, she changed forms again. This time becoming Maha Kali. Her anger continued to grow and she started to kill the Rakshasa that came to attack her. As the Rakshasa died, other Devas joined Kalima as her assult. Soon, the Rakshasa stopped attacking the other Devas and focused on Kalima and the Devas that followed her. The Rakshasa were no match for them and they fell as fast as joined the battle. The other Devas joined Kalima in desiccating the Rakshasa for breaking the laws of combat and assaulting them.

Soon, all of the Rakshasa were dead and Kalima anger was still not ended. She started her advance toward Heaven. As she moved advanced, the killed all of the Rakshasa that were running toward the gates. There were also Devas that had cowered before the Rakshasa and Kalima killed them along with the Rakshasa. Their crime, they did not fight back against injustice. Soon, all of the Rakshasa and cowardly Devas were either dead or hiding behind the gates of Heaven.

Kalima and her followers started to advance toward Heaven. Lord Shiva arrived. He advanced toward Maha Kali. As they met, Lord Shiva told Kalima to stop her advance. "There are more Rakshasa hiding behind the gates of Heaven." said Maha Kali. Lord Shiva replied, "They have not done anything wrong. The ones that did are all dead." "But they did nothing to stop the other, they are also responsible!" said Kalima. Seeing the anger in her eyes, Lord Shiva lay down on the ground and said, "If you must kill an innocent, start with me." Kalima looked at Lord Shiva laying between her and the gates of Heaven. She looked at the Rakshasa and realized that it was not her duty to defeat them, that role was for another. She also remembered that she was no longer the leader of the Devas army. She stopped. Her anger subsided and she returned to her Parvithi form. She turned to the Devas that followed her and said, "Today, you have stood against injustice. Now, you must go and find the one destined to free Heaven from the Rakshasa." With that, the Devas left to find their leader. Matha Parvithi and Lord Shiva returned to their home, their role in the battle was over.

This is the end of the story of Kalima.
